On May 22nd, the Arts in Corrections Theatre program, led by myself and Janessa Johnsrude, had its first ever theatrical event on the prison grounds. With a small invited audience of guests, two classes performed: one focusing on original monologues inspired by Hamlet's soliloquoy, the other presenting original characters and improvising for the audience in character. The students were excellent and brave and delightful. The guests were blown away, as were staff members. Huge thanks to Janessa for doing a ton of administrative work to make the event happen, as well as huge thanks to the prison administration for their support.
